Refined wood for furniture is synonymous with sophistication, resistance and artisan tradition. These materials, characterised by unique textures and exclusive qualities, represent not only the most authentic form of elegance but also offer a great deal of robustness over time.

The main characteristics of refined wood for furniture are as follows:

1.    Resistance refers to the ability of the wood to bear external weight without becoming damaged. Some woods, such as oak and walnut, are well known for their high degree of resistance, making them particularly suitable for furniture and structures that must bear considerable weight.

2.    Hardness indicates how easily the wood may become scratched or dented. Hard woods such as beech, acacia and ebony are more resistant to denting and scratches and offer a durable surface, especially for flooring and work surfaces.

3.    Rigidity refers to the ability of the wood to resist bending and deformation. Rigid woods keep their shape even when subject to stress and weight.

4.    Thick woods often guarantee resistance and durability. Thickness can also impact appearance, as thick woods often have a lighter grain and smoother finish.

5.    Reactivity to the environment indicates the type of reaction to factors such as humidity and heat variation. Some woods, such as teak, resist humidity well, making them ideal for environments such as bathrooms and kitchens, and for outdoor elements.

6.    Sustainability. As we grow increasingly aware of environmental issues, it is essential to consider the environmental impact of the wood that we choose. Choosing wood from sustainably-managed sources contributes to the protection of natural resources.

Some of the most refined woods used for furnishings and furniture production are as follows:

  • Mahogany: with its warm tone and shine, mahogany is widely appreciated for its beauty and durability.
  • Ebony: known for its dark colour and fine structure. It is often used for decorative detailing and parts of furniture.
  • Walnut: boasts a characteristic grain and a warm tone. It is versatile and suitable for both classic and modern furniture.
  • Cherry wood: characterised by reddish tones and an interesting grain. It is often used for traditional furniture.
  • Rosewood: this exotic wood has a distinctive grain and varies in colour. It is appreciated for its beauty and originality.

Maestro Giuseppe Rivadossi’s atelier uses several types of refined wood for its furniture creations: particularly Italian walnut, European cherry wood and Slavonian oak, as well as maple, lime wood, forest lime wood and ash. Our choice of refined wood for furniture is not merely a question of aesthetics, but an ode to nature, to artisan craftsmanship and to the importance of investing in pieces that will last over generations.
